ISC moderated the panel on "Do Not Mail Seminar".
Direct Mail accounts for more than 40% of print-based advertising -more than 10 million tons of printing and writing paper -about a third of U.S. demand is shipped through the United States Postal Service. Efforts to curtail direct mail are gaining momentum at the state level while the advocates are urging Congress to take up federal legislation to mandate a nationwide "Do Not Mail" registry similar to that of "Do Not Call".
