about us
ISC's mission is to advance (cultivate) the professional development of young business leaders who have the knowledge, skills, networks and values to implement socially and fiscally responsible business practices that will increase long-term enterprise and shareholder value by lessening both the environmental impact and the cost of enterprise communication. ISC’s core programs and tools promote economic, social and environmentally sound business practices in the design, sourcing, production, use and disposal of enterprise communication. ISC fosters the professional development of a diverse population of young business leaders and communication professionals to implement financially sound and socially responsible business practices that increase long-term shareholder value by lessening environmental impact and reducing costs the costs of enterprise communication. New Metrics A global economy coupled with pressing issues such as non-renewable resource conservation, climate change and pressure to reform corporate governance practices are changing the views of consumers, investors and regulators regarding the role of business corporations in society. Increasingly, corporate stakeholders (shareholders, investors, regulators, employees, and customers) are taking a broader perspective on corporate social responsibility (CSR) that extends beyond economic performance and regulatory compliance to include social, environmental and governance-related performance factors. These changes are driving institutional investors to demand increased non-financial reporting, which in turn is shaping markets for environmentally and socially preferable products and services. As such, organizations are being called upon to account for their “triple-bottom-line” (environmental, social and financial) performance, but they often lack adequate sources of trained and experienced business leaders with proven action frameworks for achieving “beyond compliance” CSR goals and sustainability objectives. A New Response The founders of ISC are dedicated to developing leaders that can put CSR policy into practice at a corporation’s operational level by implementing proven environmentally and socially responsible best practices for enterprise communication, with a particular focus on enterprise publishing, printing and packaging. Based on decades of experience and acknowledged industry expertise, ISC staff, advisors and fellows improve the “triple-bottom-line” performance of an enterprise in meaningful and measurable ways. ISC’s pragmatic and efficient approach to the application of sustainable communication demands a new generation of business professionals trained in best practices and consensus-based standards. ISC was formed to fulfill these needs.
